Verb the noun!

Verb the noun!

Idea credit to the clever medics...

… in conversations with clever anaesthetists, medics, and surgeons who see pretty horrible, life-changing events in their everyday work, a common thread emerges.

Seize the day - or “Carpe that fucking diem!”

However, on a smaller and more direct scale, they have figured out that “verb the noun” is a better and achievable summary.

Here is my interactive attempt technical distraction to channel some of that energy. It is written using a mix of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS with the ObservableHQ notebook framework developed by Mike Bostock of NYT Graphics fame. A very cool place to prototype web stuff and also host and share…

You can choose a starting letter for the alliterative motto. Word choice may need a bit more work, but for now I like the idea that the list includes obscure words (by the way, the lists are downloaded via an API call from https://www.datamuse.com).

  • past, present tense and gerunds are excluded with simple pattern match
  • You can go with `randomVerb` and `randomNoun`, or select a choice from a pull-down menu
  • Will add more options here

Tying in with image generation

The next step is simply to generate an image from the prompt. Doing this with API calls is a bit of a pain because the companies hosting the models charge after a certain point (and to do that, they need to keep track of free-tier usage). I came across puter.ai, which allows a user to link a Google, GitHub, or Facebook account and then use it to generate images (I am not sure how many free images can actually be used, so mileage may vary).

This is what my view as a “developer” looks like. It is pretty fun, but definitely not instantaneous. Expect a few seconds’ delay.

and an example of the generated image for animate the animatism (which is a bit of a mess, but hey, it’s a start):
